Fresh Snow in Tahoe: Winter Has Officially Arrived!

Winter has returned to Lake Tahoe in a big way! After the latest storm delivered a fresh blanket of snow across the Sierra, the basin is buzzing with excitement. Pine trees are frosted, peaks are glowing, and the unmistakable energy of ski season is finally in the air. Whether you’re a powder chaser, a groomer lover, or simply someone who waits all year for that first true Tahoe snowfall—this is your moment.

And the timing couldn’t be better: Tahoe’s ski resorts have officially kicked off their opening announcements, and we’re gearing up for another unforgettable season in the mountains.

Tahoe Ski Resort Opening Dates (So Far)

Here’s what we know right now — and yes, it’s GOOD news:

Diamond Peak

• Projected Opening Day: Mid–Late December (Hoping for December 4th)

• Snowmaking is underway on the lower mountain, and with this new storm, crews are prepping for a strong opening. Expect family-friendly terrain, lake views for days, and that classic Incline Village locals’ vibe.

Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe

• Opening Day: Typically one of the earliest in Tahoe but Still TBD
  With its high elevation and new snow, Mt. Rose is spinning lifts early again this year. Expect reliable conditions on the Rose side and access to high alpine terrain sooner than most.

Northstar California

• Opening Day: Before or around Thanksgiving, Shooting for 11/21
  With fresh natural snow plus their impressive snowmaking network, Northstar is shaping up for a smooth seasonal kickoff.

Palisades Tahoe (Squaw & Alpine)

• Opening Day: Targeting 11/26
  This storm gave the upper mountain a nice boost, and early-season terrain should be ready soon. Anticipate limited lifts at first, expanding as storms continue.

Other Resorts

• Heavenly: Around Thanksgiving
• Kirkwood: Early December
  Heavenly’s snowmakers have been working around the clock, while Kirkwood benefits more directly from natural snowfall — which this storm delivered.
• Boreal: 11/21
• Homewood:  12/12
• Sugarbowl:  11/22
• Tahoe Donner:  12/19
• Donner Ski Ranch: Early December

Cross Country Terrain

• Nevada Nordic –TBD

• Tahoe Donner Cross Country – Nov 28

• Royal Gorge Cross Country – Nov 28
